This is the first plant I've ever successfully sprouted, and look at it go!

I had planted 2 seeds into that pod and the second one sprouted today. Wasn't sure how to remove it properly, would up just slicing the second one near where it exited the sponge.

Because of how fast they grow, they normally only have one long root at this point - which makes them easy to remove out of the pod with a pair of tweezers. Cutting out the second one also works!

Error, am I getting close to when I should be thinking about moving that sponge up? You're getting closer, but you still have some time to go - once the stem starts to swell (and form the radish), you want to keep an eye on it. As long as the radish has room to grow, you don't need to move it. Yours might not even need to be lifted up based on how much stem is there, but it will take some time to find out

Hey, uh, what method exactly did you use to slide the sponge up? Should I lift the whole top panel of the Aerogarden and push it up from underneath, or is this better done by sneaking a leatherman's pliers in through the top and pulling it up? Assuming I will still have to do that hg1.funnyjunk.com/comments/+_bf318f518a5601cf35ccbf84b43fef04.jpg

You shouldn't need much force to lift it up. You can place your other hand on the rim of the pod itself to prevent that from lifting up as well.

Oh, ok. It makes me nervous just grabbing the plants but that makes sense.

I was gonna try this with KN-Bravo radishes but I don't think I quite understand. How does the radish keep growing when you slide it out of the sponge? Is it just the roots still in there? Sorry if it was unclear - you keep the roots in the sponge and the sponge in the pod, you just lift up the sponge a bit so that the top of the sponge is level with the top of the pod (rather than being down in the pod). Here's an example of what I did for my turnips (which is the same process). As long as the radish bulb itself isn't down in the hole (and so it is above the hole) you should be good. You mentioned for radishes, you know you can start raising it when the stem/leaves turn red. Any visual indicators for turnips? Mine are starting to grow, but not sure when to start checking/raising. Thanks!

Thanks! For both radishes and turnips, the only thing you need to make sure is that the bulb has room to grow. If the part that swells is above the pod, you might not need to move it at all. But if the part that swells is in the pod, such that it looks like the radish/turnip would be constrained by the size of the pod/slot, then you'll want to lift it up.

Looks good, I'm glad it worked out! If the leaves were the issue, you can normally cut those in half (making them half as long) and the plant will continue to grow fine.

The roots were actually becoming more of an issue than the leaves LOL
