This year I made some new pea string supports, the old ones were recycled 2x3s and looking very shabby.. the peas will be looking for string before next week so glad the are done!

Those were all replaced in the past 12 months.. lumber has doubled since this time last year.. those 2x3x10s for the supports used to be $3 they are $6 and change now.. go figure the trees cost more because of covid .. or wait.. no, they are just taking advantage of the situation .. I just feel really bad for anyone in the process of building a house that didn't get a price lock before last March..

Had to make room for the coming tomatoes peppers and eggplant so the blooming catnip needed to be planted. It was not getting enough nute anyway, the roots had filled the gallon jug. I actually had to cut the jug to get it out. Not sure it will survive but I am fairly sure this stuff is like Hosta .. can't kill it .. Those roots were so tight the plant was standing up on the root leg with just the slightest amount of assistance. I wanted to open them up but they were having non of that.. Hole was as deep as those root are tall ..

Every time I see this thread, I find myself thinking that Airscapes is a brand for raised beds.

Burpee Early 4th of July seed have all germinated in 5 days using Parks sponges in a float! That is about the same as peat pods but a lot less mess. Pepper and Eggplant will take another week or more and since the sweet pepper seeds are from 2016 I don't know how many will germinate.

Guess tonight the peppers will move to dirt.. Exciting time. I'm planting peppers and eggplant into my EarthBoxes this Saturday. They are mini's. I bought the seed to grow in an AeroGarden, but I want to see what they do in an EarthBox this summer. (If they're worth growing inside, or not) lol

Sort of.. these will go into pots that fit into a holder and I move them out on the porch when the weather is good.. and bring them in at night. Nothing goes into the ground until the soil temp is up to at least 68 degrees 6" down.. no point they will just sit there and do nothing. So by moving them in and out, they get used to temp changes and will be probably 10 or more inches tall before going in the ground. I should have said, time to move them to pots, because it is still in the 60's during the day here in SE Pa.. Oh and the other thing about the Peppers, they are going where the peas are growing now, so it will be a while I just hope I didn't start them too soon.. just got first couple flowers on peas..

Speaking of Peas.. got the first couple of flowers open.. I did a little experiment.. bed on left with the flowers got my normal amount of garden ton in the fall as the one on the right but I gave it another application before planting.. looks like they are slightly head of the right side with less.

I moved all the seedlings including the eggplants to the pots so I could straighten out the lighting area.

Tomatoes getting lovely real sun. Looks like the day time temps are going to stay over 60 for a week so these guys will get planted soon and the new outdoor bucket system setup. Not sure what I will do with the extra bucket tomato, maybe keep him in the house under light to see how it will work for next winter..

weather really hot today and this coming week, peas hate it over 80 and we are in the upper 80s and 90s.. Went to look at things this morning and got a nice surprise! I have only been looking at the tops, trying to get them to grow under the strings.. Will get our first taste by middle of next week if not before! If you have a sunny spot, even if it is shaded by trees later in the year, you really can grow peas.. very inexpensive and easy to grow, just have to be ready to plant them when the ground is just done thawing.. they can handle frost once they are up.. These are Maestro shelling peas
