I was OK until I took my walk after work. I wasn't 10 feet from my front door when my low sugar alarm went off. It wasn't bad though. I'm pulling the mix tonight. I'm going to try Sher's idea by spraying it down with hydrogen peroxide. Then I will make a mix of my own. I will soak those tonight.

And now, a nice soak in some food-grade hydrogen peroxide.

That is a relief after reading about some people getting sick from sprout borne illnesses.
Way to do it right!

My Territorial seeds still have not shipped. It may take 2 weeks before I get them.
So I ordered these. They should be here tomorrow.

I'm a tad jealous. I can't have broccoli around the house. Mikey loves it, but his colitis doesn't love broccoli, so best to avoid it all together.

I'm trying Sher's idea. The last two batches I pulled out I soaked in Hydrogen Peroxide for 15 minutes. Then I rinsed them three times and let them drain. Then I packed them away into the fridge in a plastic baggie.
Then, I created two new mixes of my own using broccoli, alfalfa, clover, radish and mung beans. I use 2 Tbs. of seeds. I put the seeds in the jar and cover them in hydrogen peroxide and let them soak for 15 minutes. Then after 15 minutes, I dump the H2O2 and rinse three times. Then I fill half way and let them soak over night.

Another method to lengthen storage life (I use it on all my freash veggies) is to put a dry paper towel around the veggies before wrapping them in plastic. This slows condensation and mold growth. It is amazing how much longer veggies last.
I saw a guy on Youtube putting a folded paper towel on the bottom of a Ziplock before adding his sprouts. He claims they will stay fresh up to a week.

The sprout seeds I ordered from Amazon because my Territorial seeds were taking too long arrived yeaterday. I started them last night.
Then my Territorial seeds arrived today.
I have many dozens of regular canning jars, so I ordered lids to fit them. I figured I would just remove the sprouts from the jar with tongs.
But Amazon sent wide mouth lids. So now my jar is precariously perched upside down on top of a too big lid.
I will scrounge through the storage shed and see if I can find a wide mouth jar.

Do you not want to return the lids for the proper ones?

Folks, I hate to say it, but I'm backing off on these for a while. I have been experiencing digestive issues as of late. Because of the timing with these sprouts, I'm backing off to see if they may be the cause. I really like them. But they may not like me back.

Sometimes too much greens can get to you. Take care of yourself and let us know if backing off helped.

Maybe the quantity or maybe just one of them is the issue. Are any one of them a new-to-you veggie? In recent years, Mikey has become sensitive to broccoli. We used to eat it all the time and his very favorite soup is Broccoli Cheese, but lately and increasingly, he cannot tolerate broccoli. It triggers his colitis.

The only thing new is alfalfa. I don't think I've had more than 1½ cups on any given day. It has become a problem, though.

The only thing new is alfalfa. I don't think I've had more than 1½ cups on any given day. It has become a problem, though. That could be it. Also, I understand that there can be issues that certain foods in conjunction with certain pollens, can team up to cause problems. So, it can be that other times of the year, it might not be an issue...if that makes sense? Some years back, Mikey's doctor ordered a Food Antibody Assessment test for him. At that time, he reacted to Buckwheat, Corn, Crab, English Walnut, Lobster, and to a larger degree, Almond. It wasn't very expensive. As I recall, it was a couple of hundred and gave a nice report showing to what extent given things might be giving him issues. Nowadays, you see that test advertised on TV with a DIY home kit. I understand there are a few "levels" to choose from. I would probably opt for the most extensive one, and just be done with it? I've looked at the advertised one online and it is exactly the same list of foods tested as the one Mikey's doctor did for him. And, similar pricing too, without the doctor visit. Either way, unless there are big issues best discussed with your doctor, you could just see how cutting out the sprouts for a while works out? If you decide to try adding them again, maybe do them one at a time? Of course, my advice could also be worth exactly what you are paying for it.

mike, I am so sorry they are giving you problems.
I have just started eating my first batch. I find I don't like them raw like I once did.
I plan to use most of mine in cooking.
Thanks for getting me started growing them, too. And I do hope that your stomach feels back to normal soon.

I've changed my opinion on the sprouts. i was eating too many at a time, which is why I didn't like them.
After washing, scooping out seeds with the screened lid, lifting the mass of sprouts up, pouring out the seeds that were on the bottom, and rinsing again, there were no more seeds.
Then if I just use a pinch (maybe 2-3 tablespoons) as a topper or filler, I am really enjoying them.
So far, no stomach problems.
