5/18/22, Day 2. Yesterday I started some Cherry Belle radishes in the Sprout seed starter, as an experiment. The seeds are swelling already. I'm hoping that it will work to just plant a batch of these, without tinfoil covers or domes, with normal AG nutrients (4ml). Radishes are supposed to be ready to harvest in 21 days.

That bunny IS precious, lynnee.
If your radishes do well in the seed starter, I will try some in a Harvest seed starter. That is a great idea.

Day 4. All of the seeds have germinated. I thinned the sponges that had two plants with leaves to one plant each. The sponges that seem empty have germinated seeds that were planted deeper than the others. Fingers crossed!

5/24/22 Day 8 Today I discovered that the Sprout pump was disconnected--obviously that didn't keep the radishes back! Did an R&R and added 4ml of AG nutes.

Day 12 (5/29/22) The radishes are looking like radishes! A few days ago, the leaves had some yellowing, so I gave them 1ml of CalMag. At the 14-day point, I'll add another 4ml of AG nutes.

That appears to be the best way to grow AG radishes! It's nice getting more than the 6 in a Harvest.

That appears to be the best way to grow AG radishes! It's nice getting more than the 6 in a Harvest. I hope so! I just peeked at the roots, and they're mostly confined to the sponges. With 10 days to go, they haven't filled up the bowl.

Today I figured out why the radishes are growing faster in the left and middle rows of the Sprout seed starter. (You can sort of see this in the photos posted above, but the next photo, in a few days, will show it clearly.) The radishes are stealing light from the Harvest on their left! This suggests that radishes may do best in a Harvest seed starter, which gives 20w rather than 10w. I think it was Sher who expressed doubts about the 10w light in another thread where I floated the idea for this project. Good call!

Day 15. Here is the promised photo of how fast the radishes are growing, depending on how close their row is to the neighboring 20w Harvest light. Here are a couple of photos from today. In the first photo, you can see how the radish pushes the sponge aside as it grows outward. It's a good idea to gently lift the radishes with enlarged stems regularly by the leaves/stems. This ensures that the sponges won't get wedged in the seed starter holes as the radishes grow ever wider. The radishes are supposed to be ready to harvest at Day 21. The radishes received 4ml of AG nutrients on Day 14 (same as startup).

Can you turn the sprout around to give the other side some sunbathing time? At Day 21, I'll harvest the big radishes, and leave the others to soak up the extra light. I'm kind of curious to see whether the 10w light is enough, if you're willing to wait longer for your radishes. Next time I'll grow these in a Harvest seed starter, and maybe plant in alternate rows.
