I put enough seeds in damp paper towel today for two gardens. I want a good supply of jalapenos for a good fermented sauce later this Summer.

I started 3 of these in the Sprout today to pot when they are mature enough. I figured the sponges would be deep enough in the huge pots.

I'm definitely following this one. This is a pepper I have on my agenda. I've read such great things about it.

Mike, are you planning on 2 plants per machine, or 1?

Two, to start. If they get too big I will remove one.

This is supposed to be the hottest jalapeno, about 10,000 SHU. I'll believe it when I taste them. Others say 30,000 SHU, I don't believe that.

It’s funny how broad the range of SHU that jalapeños can be. Hopefully it’s right where you want them to be.

I have 50-60 varieties of hot pepper seeds, and somehow, I've missed having these.
I'm really interested in the progress of these, but right now, I'm pretty happy with the two 'peno varieties I'm growing, and equally pleased with the bulgarian carrots and lemon drops.

I have some coming in, but I'm not happy about the results. I couldn't find the proper size sponges, so I cut down jumbos. Then, they started coming in. But very little growth since.

These jalapenos have had some issues. The left plant was loose in the sponge. The main stalk started growing at an angle that made it impossible to stand upright, balance wise. I decided to pull it and move the center plant to the left. These both have buds now.

Good thing you started 3. Do you attribute the odd angle of growth to the different sponges you used, or it’s just one of those things?

It was a combination of cutting up pieces of a larger sponge and not paying close attention to them. The plant flopped over, the with me not seeing it, the stalk turned 60° toward the lights. It won't happen again. I have plenty of sponges, now.
