Aerogarden published this pic in Facebook about 5 days ago representing that you can grow French Radishes in an AG. I can’t imagine how, and they didn’t specify, they just said to call with questions. I’m guessing the Grow Bowl with its flood and drain function would be involved but have no idea, and I don’t have one. Anyone with a Grow Bowl who can venture a guess?

It appears the started them in a pod. Once big enough they grow it in the cage. So they carefully remove it from the pod. This was something they tested.

Very interesting! I guess we could also start the sponge by making a long slit up the side to help release the radish later, for going into the basket. Thank you for asking, Shawn.

Your welcome. Are you going to try it? If so I will be following. I might - I have to look into French radish seeds first. If I can find ones that are as fast as my round Rovers (21 days) it could be worth it. Especially in summer when you can’t grow them outside.

I have never tried these in an AG as they are a root veggie but have outside in an Earth Box (EB as we refer to them).

I haven’t yet, mostly because I’m overflowing with radishes outdoors in my EB. But off season it would be really nice to try.

You can definitely grow radishes in the Aerogarden! Here's a photo of my Crimson Giant Radish: The trick is to slowly pull the radish/edible portion out of the slot as it grows... if you keep it in the pod, it will get stuck in the slot and become impossible to get out.

How many this size did you get in your Harvest, and how long did it take to grow to that size?Do share.
(unusual user name..you must use your printer a lot LOL)

I tried just two since I had a pumpkin plant that was taking over the Aerogarden... that one was 21 days after I planted the seed. The first one I didn't pull out of the slot, so it got stuck, and I harvested it early because I was worried it would damage the top - had to use a knife and slice it to pieces to get it out of there.
(I tried something different and spent the first week with plain water, so technically 14 days with nutrients)

Hi! I'm especially interested in learning about diy with your own seeds and seed pods!

I love that you're an experimenter!
Your radish demonstration certainly changes my view of AG: root veggies never occurred to me as feasible!
Welcome. I'm new, too!

I would really love to try that in a Harvest as a novelty project.. But..if the seeds and roots are in sponges, how do you 'slowly pull' the radish up without breaking the roots off? Do tell!

That's what mine grew in - the Harvest! In my experience, the sponges are rather loose in the pod - so you can pull it up easily without damaging anything. You just gently pull on it, and if you feel any resistance, then the roots might be caught on something. When I grew this one the roots behaved

Also, as a follow-up: radishes don't seem to develop nearly the root mass that other plants have, which might be due to how radishes have a tap root? You also harvest them quickly so they don't have as much time to develop a tangled mess.

definitely going to give it a go '
not going to grow this, but it is a fun fact.
The world's heaviest radish was grown by Manabu Oono (Japan) and weighed 31.1 kg (68 lb 9 oz) on 9 February 2003 at the Sakurajima Radish Contest, Kagoshima, Japan. It had a circumference of 119 cm ( 46.8 in)

I wouldn't recommend growing that one in an Aerogarden... but if you want to grow it outdoors, I found the seeds on Reimer Seeds. (I haven't ordered from them before, but they have a money-back guarantee if their seeds don't germinate, so I might try it)
