Green Purslane from MIgardener planted in my Harvest on November 19. "A low, crawling plant, that can be eaten as a snack. The leaves are juicy, plump and can help with thickening soups. packed in antioxidants and nutrients. High in Omega 3 fatty acids. The plants leaves can be used in smoothies and juices. This succulent like plant offers yields year round, is tolerant to heat, drought, cold, and is a perennial as well!" "Days till maturity: 50"

It's a long time since I tried growing it. If memory serves me correctly, I didn't like the taste. But it sounds so good and healthy, I'll try growing it again when a Harvest becomes available.

I would be interested in hearing about the taste

At this early stage, it doesn't seem to have much taste. But since it's supposed to be so healthy (with omega 3s), I'll keep at it, and will let you know.

When purslan grows as a weed in my vegetable garden it grows 3 inches a day! It's a creeper. It is also a member of the Portulaca family and I used to nibble as I weeded. The taste was mellow but I would suggest eating it mixed in a salad or top tacos or something. I wish I would have known it was so nutritious, I wouldn't have composed it. Do you have genus species name on the seed packet? Does it look like this plant? www.healthyandnaturalworld.com/purslane/

It tasted a little slimy to me. Is that how you would describe it?

I don’t know. It tastes a little tangy to me. Maybe it’s because I keep on cutting fresh leaves from the top

It tasted a little slimy to me I was watching Chopped yesterday and one of the items was Purslane. One of the chefs mentioned how it was slimy. I have no clue if this is true or not as I have never had it.

We have purslane growing wild in Minnesota; many people (including me) treat it as a weed and whack it into oblivion. I feel bad; maybe I should give the purslane a chance? I actually have some recipes that use purslane, so maybe there's a way to make it less slimy. Perhaps I could let a patch grow and turn it into something yummy....

I actually have some recipes that use purslane, so maybe there's a way to make it less slimy. Perhaps I could let a patch grow and turn it into something yummy.... They accidentally put purslane in my mint pod. After identifying it, I found out that purslane is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and several other vitamins. So I figured I should try it but I'm not too found of the taste. Maybe I'll try different recipes to see if I can get one that I like.
