Before I left for post-Thanksgiving holiday (11/22) I planted several pods with herb seeds and just put them in random cups. Lemon basil, Genovese basil, parsley, and an attempt at cilantro. Probably something else too. The sponges of cilantro have apparently not sprouted but I put some in a paper towel and they sprouted and are trasplanted into sponges here. Weak, but they’re here. So we shall see.

These poor herbs have been sorely neglected since they were planted owing to all the hospitalizations, treatments, and mortality issues I’ve been helping loved ones go through these past 6 weeks. At first they were just stunted, then they developed a strange glittery discoloration and then I saw that once again this unit developed a lot of algae. It was all over. So I did a Rinse n Refill but didn’t have time to be perfect about a thorough cleaning. It got a somewhat good cleaning. Then I rinsed off the sponges and roots and added a Tbsp of hydrogen peroxide. They do look improved, so I am cautiously optimistic that I can nurse these along. I think I might mark the bottom of this unit with with a sharpie to see if it’s in fact the same unit every time getting the algae.

I am sorry that you have been going through so much lately.
I think it is a great idea about marking the unit to verify if it is this unit doing it or all units.

Wow, long time since I posted about this garden. Since last time, this garden got another scrubbing and peroxide dose and it seems to be improved. This was taken a few weeks ago.

Today. Per Shawn’s advice I just added 1 Tbsp of peroxide.
