This is my second or third attempt at getting lavender going, and this one seems to be successful. I don't remember how long ago I planted these, but I think it's been a couple months.

I just got home from a week away and snapped a couple of shots of how things went while I was gone.

How many seedlings did you leaver per pod? I think I planted 2-3 seeds per pod, but I thinned them to one plant per pod after they sprouted.

Still going. I trimmed off some flower buds to try and keep them bush-like.

I found something interesting today. One of the branches had gotten under the cap of an empty plug and put down roots. I'm going to put it in a cage/Grow Grip and let it keep going. That should keep it from exposing the tank to light. I just hope I didn't damage the roots too much getting them in there.

After flowering, these died off pretty quickly. I might grow them again. They were productive leaf-wise, which I could have dried and stored, but I didn't get many flowers to be able to harvest any oil.

Yeh, the lavender kit is rather a dud of a kit. Not many flowers as in the ad photo. When I grew them, I did get flowers, but only got the fragrance when I brushed the flowers. Kind of defeated the purpose of having the project growing on the bedside stand. I don;t know why they continue the kit...reviews weren't that great.

I bought the seeds separately, not the kit. There are a few varieties of lavender, perhaps a different one would produce better results.

I also want to try some Lavender but am a bit anxious about tieing up space with a crop that may not yield much. Some speculation: lavender in general likes well-draining soil. Growing it hydroponically may just not be ideal. It looks like it prefers a really tight pH range (6.4-6.8, which is a little higher than what I normally run) and not a lot of nutrients (700-980 PPM). For comparison, many herbs like basil have a wider pH preference (i.e. 5.5-6.5). While it isn't necessarily detrimental to deviate outside of this range, the pH can affect nutrient uptake and may have affected the plant's ability to flower. After I move some herbs to the outside garden, I may experiment and report back
