Anyone try to grow Stevia? I am wondering if it is worth it? I know the leaves can be used as well as drying it.

I saw seeds for the leaves and it stated they can be dried to use as a sweetener. But also said the leaves can be placed in tea as one as well. I do not know anything other then that.

Shawn I do not know much about growing it, but I do know Stevia sweeteners are basically extract from the leaves. Stevia teas are also available, so they leaves can be used to brew tea, similar to using mint leaves (or any plant leaves) to make a tea. It would be less sweet than the condensed leaves. I know a lot of people will mix stevia and mint leaves to make a "refreshing" type tea (never done this, so cannot vouch). You can also make a syrup by boiling the leaves down to make a liquid sweetener.

I went through a whole pack of seeds without getting any to sprout at all. I'm planning on trying again when I buy more seeds. I think it would be great dried and added to tea.

With as much trouble as I've had, I'm probably going to buy a live plant next time and use cuttings to get them into the hydroponics. (Speaking of which it is about that time of year). Maybe I can try shipping rooted cuttings.

Ok so I went to go get Saturday's mail from the mailbox and I found seeds but I forgot I ordered them. One of the packets was for Stevia.
I have 15 seeds and will share a few if anyone wants to try these with me. serri588?

I appreciate the offer, but I'll pass. I also want to get chocolate and orange mint plants this year, so I'll pick up a Stevia one as well. Those two are hybrids so they can't be grown from seeds.

Shawn, I have 10 seeds That I’ve been afraid to try because I think that Stevia is hard to grow.
I’ll be happy to do a GAL with you, but I wonder how we can ensure that they germinate?

I can send you some of my seeds if you would like. In the meantime, let me reach out to someone to see the best wy to try and germinate. I will do that tomorrow

While I wait for a return call, my seed pack states the following:
Sow in cell packs or flats (so that tells me we can use a sponge) Press into soil but do not cover (we can place on top of the pods or carefully place inside the pod near the tops) Germination is 7-21 days.
So just let me know if you would like a few of my seeds Happy

Please don't bother, Shawn. I have 10 seeds here. I'll put some in Rapid Rooters (1 per pod) to see if they germinate.
