On Friday the 12th I planted a bunch of tomato and pepper seeds in jiffy peat pots. Almost none were new seeds so I didn’t know what to expect. In fact, one type, the Madame Marmande, were from seed I saved from my harvest last year and fermented versus store bought. I could not find the Madame Marmande this year so am really glad I saved those seeds. A week later, Friday the 19th, all my tomatoes (but no peppers) have sprouted, and sprouted well! From left to right: Madame Marmande, Madame Marmande, Sunrise Bumblebee, Sunchocula, (2nd row) Sun Gold, Galina and Gobstopper. No peppers yet.

Most of my flowers are started in peat pods for outside gardening. I marvel at the fast rate the seeds germinate and get roots in the garden starter, but I hesitate because the squirrels dig up the sponges thinking they are a yummy treat! I did start some toms, though for the EB's too! They can;t find the sponges all covered up in the EB as easily. I have another 5 weeks or so to go before I get to do anything with the EB's, though, weatherwise. You are lucky you can plant all year round!

I now have the tomatoes under AG lights. I don’t remember if I’m supposed to feed them anything at this stage or if the Jiffy Peat Pellets have food already in them.
