Every time I grow lettuce I get young leaves that appear dried out at the tips. I’m growing romaine in a bounty and only added 5ml of AG nutes once they started to grow. Any tips for my tips?

I am not a romaine grower, but a loose leaf grower. however, I am trying my hand at romaine presently. In the past I have learned that the browning on the leaf edges( I see 2 examples in the photo) means the nutrients are too strong. I never add more than 4 ml even in my tall machines. Topping off with more nuted water will definitely burn. Another problem is the water..if you are using spring water , that will yellow your leaves. ALso try adding about 2 ml of Calcium suplements like Mr Mucha stash to green up the leaves. (if you are using a 3 part nutrient system instead of AG nutes, you can add the first stage bottle which will help green things up a bit). As I said...I am not a romaine grower.

Thank you so much for these suggestions! I will add some Calimagic (sic) and wait a while before adding more nutes.

If it were my project, rather than just adding more solution into the mix, I would do a complete dump and fill with fresh water, add the Cal and then add only 3ml of the AG to give them a fresh start. But that is just what I would do..others would not agree.

If I may also add, check to make sure the water is cool or cold. Lettuce does not like warm and hot water. If needed throw some ice cubes in the bowl to cool it off.

I have this issue almost every garden. I have found lowering the nutes (~4 to 5) helps delay. I am growing romaine (first time) and I had that happen to. I just cut off the little baby leaf and what has grown since didn't have the burnt edge. My supposition when this happens to me is that when some of the plant is regrowing and it happens around nute adding, it just might be too much for the delicate leaves. Whenever I see brown edges I just trim off (with my fingers if possible) and let it go. The lettuce usually produces more than I can handle at a given time, so a lost half a leaf does not worry too much. I also think the light might kind of fry them baby leaves some.
Sorry I am not much help, but other than the aesthetics, I do not think it is any sign of some great issue to be concerned over.
