My eyes are being blinded by the new Harvest. I do not have this problem with the Bounty because it has a black deck and a metal post. As long as I keep the hood below eye level, I am comfortable with it on.
The new Harvest with its white deck and white post is a different story! Even placed close to the floor (where I don't want it) the glaring white deck and post sear my eyes with blinding reflected white light.
I am thinking I am going to have to spray paint the post and deck with black satin Krylon Fusion paint for plastics. Then I can put it on a stand where I can enjoy it. It will not reflect as much light to the plants, but my 72 year old eyes could appreciate seeing the plants without pain.
Any thoughts? I don't want to cover the hood with a dark visor-like curtain. I want to be able to see the plants.

That is not a bad idea and something I have thought about myself (the spray painting)

Sher, not sure how much aesthetics work for you, but before I started AGing and was reading up on them and watching way too many YouTube videos, I had seen people make like covers for them. Some took cardboard and made a box/cage type thing...others took poster or foam board and make some decorative covers. If you looked around YouTube, I am sure you can find fairly easily... The idea was those folks put them on and off at night or other times. I do not have much of an issue with the lights. I have mine in my dining room and kitchen. Last Winter on occasion when the light in the kitchen went on in the morning, if I was in a light sleep it might wake me up (I started just closing the door). Also, when I watch TV at night, SOMETIMES the glare of the two Ultras directly behind me is mildly annoying. Overall, the light(s) do not bother me. But I CAN see with the white unit it being a glowing, glaring light. Hope you figure something out!

I made "curtains" for my dining area that are great for at night. I also have made the foam board and cardboard to place in front of my Harvests and Bounty's. I have used them mostly at night. I use them all the time in the spare room when I have company. They are easy to open and close.

Shawn, as soon as it quits raining and the weather permits painting, I will do that. I'll upload picture so you can see how it looks.
Clumsythumbs, thanks for the suggestions, but I don't want to mess with covers. Mainly for aesthetic reasons.

I got one painted. While there may be some drawbacks, I am thrilled that I will be able to watch my plants grow without being blinded.

That looks nice. What did you use? What drawbacks?

I used Krylon Fusion Black Satin.
The drawbacks are not as much light reflected onto the plants and maybe the water absorbing a little more heat. It can't be too bad, though, since other AG's have black decks.

I never minded the black decks. I actually like them.

I like that. I prefer the black decks. I have a Harvest in white and it is an open invitation for mega algae growth..big time. I am thinking of retiring it and setting up one of the used ones I acquired from a forum member in its place. The algae gets to the point where it is slimey and if I want to re-use the plastic pods, I have to kill it in boiling water and bleach. Right now it has some geraniums starting in it, but that will end soon. It is the LED. I used to have 2 or 3 all white AG3's with CFL bulbs and I NEVER got algae at all. White and grey decks are not on my fave list for sure.

Did you sand the unit first?

Did you sand the unit first? I don;t understand. 'sand' ? Using sandpaper. I would imagine it would need to be scuffed some as the plastic is glossy. Usually if you paint a glossy surface it will peel.

No. No sanding. Krylon Fusion is made especially for plastic. Somehow it kind of "melts" the plastic surface and becomes one with it. It will never peel.
It does not work on some plastics like ABS.

Just wanted to correct an error. I actually used black matte Krylon Fusion. But on the Aerogarden plastic, it looks like satin.
