I have a bunch of Thai Basil seeds that I harvested from the one that came with my Aerogarden, so I've decided to use them to experiment. I'm going to soak them all in water so they form their "bubbles", and then put them in a variety of starting materials (potting soil, rockwool, oasis foam) as well as just water, and see what happens.

Okay, here's where they went.
3 - Potting soil in a plastic shot glass 4 - Oasis Foam cubes (roughly 1.5in x 1.5in) 1 - Rockwool cube (1 in x 1in) 2 - Left in shallow trays of water 5 - Onto a "microgreens mat", placed into a sealed ziploc bag 1 - Into the garbage, because it was a bad seed

Updates: 3 - Potting soil in a plastic shot glass No signs of sprouting yet4 - Oasis Foam cubes (roughly 1.5in x 1.5in) I'm not sure how I like this stuff, it seems to lose water fast. No signs of sprouting yet1 - Rockwool cube (1 in x 1in) Sprouted!2 - Left in shallow trays of water Both seeds have the beginnings of a root, which is a good sign.5 - Onto a "microgreens mat", placed into a sealed ziploc bag Not enough water, I guess? Seeds started to sprout then dried out. Better luck next time.

4 - Oasis Foam cubes (roughly 1.5in x 1.5in) I think the seedlings are dead, roots look like they dried out. Need to find some way to keep this moist if I want to try it again
1 - Rockwool cube (1 in x 1in) Sprouted!
2 - Left in shallow trays of water One sprouted, the other one died. I placed the one that sprouted on top of the same rockwool cube as mentioned above.

1 - Rockwool cube (1 in x 1in) Sprouted! Also contains the extra seedling from the tray of water, which looks odd but seems to be alive.

Surprisingly, the ones in potting soil didn't sprout. I might have put too much water in that.
The extra seedling died, but the one that was started in rockwool is still going strong. I'll consider this experiment as ended, and I'll stick the one seedling that survived in a Kratky container somewhere.
