Mike, I thin bok choy to one plant per pod so it will keep its bok choy shape. I have never tried more than one per pod.
Corinne and Happy grow it. They should be along soon with their observations.

I only plant 1..2 now that I have the Extra Dwarf..only because I like those fat, crunchy juicy stems and they need room to form. Are you growing the taller variety?Dwarf/ Extra Dwarf? If the taller, I would only plant 1...the others 2....if you fancy the stems mike. Now I see you are doing the kit...does it say to thin out the pod on the pamphlet?

One thing that irks me is that AG never says what the seed variety is on the box. I would LOVE to know what the Heirloom Tom seed is! As well as the AG varieties used in the Love Blooms Petunia Kit. If we all knew, we'd all go custom after knowing what seed is used in the kit and that would be the end of kit sales, I guess. There are so many varieties of Bok Choy that it is dizzying! ....anecdote.....
I remember one time years back when I got some Harvest Rice from Whole Foods. It was DEEElicious! It had pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, and all sorts of seasonings . I enjoyed it so much, I called the cook and he GLADLY gave me the ingredients. But when I asked him how much coriander, how much of this spice , how many of that, he just chuckled and said "Now if I tell you that , I would be giving away our recipe and you'd never come back!" How true!

Hi there. I'm no expert on bok choi but believe the sooner you thin out seedlings, the sooner your chosen plant gets to take more of the nutrients and so forth. People have told me the main reason to wait a bit is to see which plant in a pod is the hardiest. Of course, if you're planning to try to separate the little darlings and try to replant the extra seedlings elsewhere, I guess you do it as soon as the stem and roots can handle it. There is a risk of disrupting the delicate young roots on your main plant if you go this route. But we're all experimenters here! Bok choi is so delicious and nutritious -- nice choice! I may have to trade in Swiss chard for bok choi next time. I think it grows faster. Chard is more like taking a barge on a sleepy river... but pretty to look at and fun to eat (in whatever decade it reaches full size).

Your posts strike my funnybone with your comparisons. Thanks! I needed the smile. And I agree with you about bok choy vs. swiss chard.

These suckers are thirsty! I have to add half a gallon EVERY day. I've also eaten quite a few leaves. They've been blocking light from other plants. They're even blocking light from the basil plants on the other side.

Mike, is the spacing between plants in the Farm farther apart than on the Bounty? I'm trying to figure out why yours are growing so vigorously.

They seem about the same but I've never measured. As for rapid growth, greens are very fast growers. I like growing Jericho Lettuce, too. They grow just like choi does.

Thanks, Mike. I have some Jericho seeds that I have grown spaced out in Kratky, but never in the Bounty. If (when) I get another Bounty, I'd like to give it a shot. Romaine is my favorite lettuce.

When I grew in my tote, it really took off. I had to give away 2/3 of my Jericho because I couldn't eat any more salads than I was.
