In my Harvest, I have planted Genovese Basil. Nothing else! That's it. And check out their progress: Yay! How close do y'all like to keep the lights to basil? Gosh, I love basil. I plan to do a Fairy Tale Eggplant with Basil dish when this is all done. My spouse and I used to get it at a restaurant that has sadly closed down. So we'll do it in memory of our favorite place. It's where we went on our 3rd date!

Your basil garden looks great! And what sweet memories!
AG says keep the lights 4-6 inches above. That works well for me in the Harvest.

Sher, do you think out Basil to one plant per pod, or let it grow wild like lettuce?

I think most people let extra plants grow in each pod. I prefer to thin to one, then prune and pinch a few leaves off to make it bushy. Either way is fine.
But then, I also thin out my lettuce sometimes.
The one time I didn't, the lettuce got so crowded it couldn't breathe. I had to spray it with water and peroxide to kill the mildew. I might grow 2 lettuces in a pod, but not three.
But it's up to you. Most people are fine with multiples. Try it both ways and see what you like best.

I have tried multiple basil in one pod and find it to be too cluttered. I prefer one basil per pod.

Thanks Sher and Shawn! I will thin 3 of the pods down to one and keep 3 with a lot of basil, and see which I like best.

Here's an update! Much taller. When I thinned them out I used the basil in a black beans and rice dish that was delicious!

I have been wanting black beans and rice for weeks. This will be the week! Thanks for the reminder.
Your basil looks so happy!

I haven't updated this thread in a while, but I've been harvesting basil for weeks and have no end in sight! Every morning I prune and throw the basil into whatever I'm cooking or store it in the fridge. The next day there's always new growth! It's just amazing to have fresh basil available whenever I want it!
