I seem to have a bell pepper growing in my jalapeños plant-is this expected?

lastun, no it is not to be expected. You can contact Aerogarden and ask them to replace the wrong pod.

You should have a Jalapeno however there are times that this does happen. Meaning the wrong seeds are in the pod. CS will make good and send you new ones.
Just to ask, are you sure it is a bell?
