Confession. I have never in my life eaten chard until I (somehow) got it in my head to grow it in my Farm Plus. I don't even know what made me buy the seeds. (The pretty colored stalks?) I assumed chard, like bok choy, needed to be cooked. I tried bok choy leaves raw in a salad ONCE -- and yuck! But I recently discovered that chard is quite tender and mild when raw. I've started snipping a few leaves to add to the lettuce growing in the other half of the Farm Plus. My husband will be lucky if I leave enough to grow big enough to sautee (which is the way he likes it). A lot of you probably knew this, but it was new to me! I feel like I discovered something cool.

Chard is wonderful raw, but choy is an acquired taste. I love it. Many hate it.

Another thing you might love is perpetual spinach. It is actually a chard, but it has pointed leaves and a hint of spinach taste.
It has never made it to a salad bowl here. I eat the tender, mild leaves right off the plant.
Congratulations on your happy discovery!

What a delicious discovery. You find out so much more about produce when you grow it instead of buying it at the store.

I agree about the raw spinach, sher. It is the only way I will eat spinach. Have you gotten it to grow in the AG?

I dearly love raw spinach, but perpetual spinach is not spinach. I have not tried growing spinach hydroponically.
Perpetual spinach is actually a mild, sweet chard that has a slight hint of spinach taste.
Some do not like its "not quite chard; not quite spinach" flavor.
