I picked up this kit from Urban Leaf to try out, and worst case I'll have some plastic inserts for doing my own bottle gardens. The setup was pretty simple - pour water into a bottle, push the pod/insert in, sprinkle seeds onto the pod, and cover with the germination sticker. Oddly enough, the nutrients are built into the pods, no separate additions or mixing required. I'm really interested to see how that works. I placed three seeds onto the pod (keeping the other two in the pack for myself) and placed it by my Harvest. Apparently Zinnia seeds are yellow, which was very surprising.

I ended up taking off the germination sticker and instead placing one of the AeroGarden humidity domes on top - I'm a bit worried that I wouldn't catch the seedling in time, and so it would get stuck to the sticker and be damaged when I remove it.
With the dome, on the other hand, it can lift up the dome if needed (and if it does, that would result in a stronger seedling).

What is white at the base? That's one of the initial/seed leaves - it does look odd in my picture, sorry for the confusion.

No worries, I was just curious.

This is doing well! I'm not sure if there will be enough water in the bottle, but I will trust in Urban Leaf's directions.

How bad are the roots in that bottle?

I find I have to add water to the mason Jar projects a few times.

How bad are the roots in that bottle? Not too bad, yet. I find I have to add water to the mason Jar projects a few times. This is tricky because it came with nutrients in the pods, so I'm not sure if I would add more nutrients or when I would add more water.

I was looking over the directions again and it says just to add water as needed (up to 80% of the bottle) and that the nutrients should last for six months.
I'm skeptical but willing to give it a try.

The flower is starting to open! I removed a lot of the unneeded/dying lower leaves as well.
