Hi All!
So yeah ... insomnia + Christmas shopping + available credit card = impulse buying!
I was wandering the web the other night trying to find a good Christmas gift for my mom who is a true gardening nut and came across the AeroGarden on Amazon. Me - always looking for the best deal - took a peek at the AeroGarden website and when I saw the CyberMonday deals (it *was* after midnight, but not by much), I was hooked. Last year, I tried doing some herbs and such outside, but didn't have very good luck (we live right on the water (bay side; not ocean side) and I really believe that the salt air is awful for gardening). This year, I attempted some container gardening for flowers in 1/2 whisky barrels (in an effort to ward of mosquitoes and those AWFUL biting flies), and a herbs in some barrels that were about 1/2 the size of the 1/2 whiskey barrels. I was surprised at the difference; and after talking to others who also found that they can't grow anything in the dirt on the short, yet are able to grow the same things in containers, I was a much happier camper.
However ...
I never seemed to have enough sweet basil or cilantro (my two very favorite herbs), and when I want other herbs, I always have to remember to add them to my grocery list. So, naturally, when I saw the AeroGarden the other night, I know my mom would love to have fresh lettuce and herbs over the winter, and I decided how NICE it would be to have fresh herbs in my kitchen right at my fingertips. And, well, the rest is history - and I'm now waiting for my Bounty Elite WiFi + free Sprout LED and my mom's AeroGarden Ultra.
I've been doing a LOT of reading over the last 48 hours and am so excited to give this a try! I have a feeling that I'll be suffering from the same potato chip syndrome that other AeroGardners have (the "one is never enough" syndrome) ... and it's going to be a LOT worse come spring and I need caterpillar food (you have NO idea how voracious those little guys are!) I want to do flowers and herbs and tomatoes and salad and peppers and and and and ....... oh well, you get the idea!
