For this year's Single Seed Challenge, I've decided to participate by growing a Filius Blue Pepper. The challenge is to grow a plant from one seed, and pay special attention to it throughout the year - sharing your progress as you grow. You can pick any type of plant, although for fruiting plants, you would probably want to pick one that is self-pollinating. I started one seed from Fatalii Seeds in a piece of air conditioner weatherseal, and I'll be moving it into a Bounty once it germinates. No nutrients added yet, as usual

That sounds like fun, ERR0R1755. I also appreciated the demonstration of how to start seeds in weather seal foam.
I had tried it in the Aerogarden, but sometimes the top of the sponge would not stay wet enough, and I would lose the seed.
By using a short block of the foam, he eliminated the poor wicking problem.

That seems like fun. Does he talk about Hydros or DWC's?
Will you be growing it completely in the AG? I would love to follow your challenge as it goes. Hey maybe I will pull out a Bounty or Ultra from my Garage Stash and grow a new pepper.
Either way I enjoyed his video on the challenge!

I had tried it in the Aerogarden, but sometimes the top of the sponge would not stay wet enough, and I would lose the seed. I had that same issue when I first tried using foam, and I almost gave up on it - but if you push the foam down (squeeze it underwater) to let all of the air bubbles out and allow it to absorb water, that helps. By putting a small hole in the middle as well, the water doesn't need to wick up as far since it only needs to reach the seed rather than the top of the sponge. (keeping the foam in a glass of water with a higher water level also helps, but I haven't tried starting anything directly in an AeroGarden since I discovered the above trick) That seems like fun. Does he talk about Hydros or DWC's?

He doesn't, but the challenge is very open ended, and while I didn't follow the challenge last year, I know that there were other participants using hydroponics. As long as you use one seed and track it from start to finish, I think you're free to do whatever else you want. I will be growing it completely in the AG! Although if anyone knows a trick to get a full-grown plant out of an AG, that would be very useful for the future

The answer.. VERY CAREFULLY I have in the past been successful but the trunk and roots also need to cooperate. I have trimmed roots and twisted and turned to do so. Some I needed to saw off and others came out easily.

Some I needed to saw off and others came out easily. I'm not sure how feasible it would be, but it would be very interesting if AG comes up with a deck design where you can "split" the deck apart, allowing you to remove half of each hole/slot. The Sprout would be easiest for this, since it would just be a division down the middle, but even something like the Harvest could be broken up into three pieces like this: That way, you could easily remove full-grown plants, and it might make the deck easier to clean? I'd imagine this is something that could be designed and 3D printed unofficially, but I'm not sure how much that would cost.

This seed seems to be growing differently than anything else I've seen, but it is germinating.

How's this one coming along? Or did you end it?

How's this one coming along? Or did you end it? I need to restart it, thank you for reminding me - for some reason the leaves never appeared but the roots were very slowly growing, and eventually it molded over.

I was really curious to see how it turned out since I also have one growing. You should definitely give it another shot!
