Note: Everything in this thread is an experiment and not backed up by scientific data. This is not a tutorial or guide - try this at your own risk.Cucumbers are well known for taking up a lot of space, both in plant mass and in roots, so I was wondering what would happen if I didn't give a cucumber plant enough space. Would it just produce leaves? Would it die from the lack of room? I filled an 8oz glass bottle with potting soil and planted a Beit Alpha Cucumber seed in it. It has had some ups and downs, especially when I accidentally overwatered it, but today it has a flower! The Beit Alpha is a parthenocarpic variety, meaning that it only produces one type of flower and does not need any pollination. I will keep the thread updated and post if anything happens.

Here is what the root growth looks like at this point in time:

I am very curious to see if it produces a cucumber!

WOuld you consider cutting that one open for a larger container or keeping it as it?

The flowers fell off, I am unsure if they have been pollinated successfully or not.

So far, no signs of cucumbers. It looks like all of the flowers have been male so far - I am unsure if this variety produces male flowers before producing parthenocarpic flowers.

Still only male flowers and no signs of cucumbers, but I will be patient.

Ended this tonight. The plant continued to produce only male flowers, although it had as many as six at a time, but the plant eventually started to die off and never produced any female flowers.

That is a shame. You would think you would get at least one.
