Wife likes Iceberg the best... sooo, guess I will give it a try. Wanted to put it in a gallon milk jug to make it easy to take outside when nice, rather than burning 40w of power. I painted the jug with black undercoating and a couple days later I picked it up and squeezed by accident and the stuff just flaked off in chunks. Back to the drawing board.. did not want a full sized tote, yet.. searched the internet, dollar store and Lowes, settling on a 5qt economy painter pail that was gray in color. Of course there were no lids. So I modeled and fabricated one. This morning I moved the lettuce from my DIY bounty to the bucket with air stone. Used 1 gallon of RO water, 5lm of AG and 1ml of CaliMagic. How many romaine plants do you all think I can safely grow in a gallon bucket like this, any idea? Useable lid space is about 8" in diameter. Wife eats lettuce once a day during the tomato season.. I don't really do the rabbit food so not sure what I would need to support her habit. Thanks for lookin! Doug

This poor head of lettuce has had a tough time of it.. shocked it and killed off it's original roots, I under feed it, didn't give it enough calcium from what I read (very hard to know if the edge damage is nutrient burn or lack of calcium but I believe the later as it started with inner most youngest leaves) But it kept on growing, and is almost time to harvest. Package says 45 days to maturity and the 15th will be 45 day since it got it's second set of leaves. Head is getting frim, just ripped off one of the ratty outer leave that was covering the water fill hole today, got tired of fighting with it every morning.

Oh, dear! I hope it revives & survives! Oh it's fine.. raggedy edges and all. The center is a nice firm head..No idea how it will taste.. but like my wife says.. you really can't tell once the Olive Garden Dressing is on it ;-)
