July 4, 2021 My Bounty Elite arrived early and I set it up next to my Harvest Elite. I moved the two basil pods over that I started in the Harvest on June 30th. I plan to put six different basils in here... genovese, thai, lemon, napolitano, marseille, globe and purple (aka red rubin). The rest of them are in the mail. Everything is running smoothly.

July 6, 2021 I'm using glow in the dark golf balls to cover some holes. They make the Bounty look like the movie Tron!

July 7, 2021 The genovese basil is off to a good start. Everyone else is still slumbering.

Seedlings spotted down inside all of the pods. Genovese is doing well outside its cup. I thinned it down to just three seedlings.

Everything is peeping out. Took the cups off of three more today. When everything is out and I get my Holy Basil pod, I'll shoot another photo.

All of the basils are doing well. I'm pinching off a couple to keep them from growing too fast and getting leggy. The Aerovoir I ordered arrived and it's all set up. I received a pod for Holy Basil, which I'll add soon. I'll shoot a photo when the Harvest gets a little further along.

July 21, 2021 Here is the status of the basil garden. I've done a little trimming on the genovese basil it was going too fast.

July 31, 2021 Here is an update on the basil garden at approximately the one month mark. Things are doing very well. I changed the water and added new plant food today. The genovese basil on the far right behind the post was growing more stem than leaves, so I chopped it back. It was unhappy for a while, but now it's starting to burst with baby leaves. The Aerovoire on this one glugs through the water, almost a tank every week.

Sometimes, hubby remarks that he can see the growth in just an afternoon. I don't notice it quite so much, since I'm watching them more, I guess? Good job!

Just amazing looking basil plants. Can you describe how you cut back the plant to promote growth of the plant? I am always hesitant to cut back my plants and don't really know when and where to cut them back. Thanks!

I am always hesitant to cut back my plants and don't really know when and where to cut them back. Thanks! For basil I always leave at least three to four sets of true leaves. I would normally cut above the 3rd or 4th one. The plant would then bush out. I then allow at least two sets off of each branch to grown and then cut the top centers of those. There are also videos on how to prune herbs here. I do have some of my own basil plants from early on marked up if you need a refereance.

I certainly will. They are barely popping out of the sponges, so I will keep a close eye on them as they grow.

I pinch off the topmost small leaves as they form (and eat them!) I also eat leaves that get very large and shade lower leaves. The genovese grew a long stem too soon, so I chopped it, and it took a bit to grow back. Now that it's all reached the top of the trellace, I'm going to start just chopping off just above the trellis like a haircut. Basil is resilient, so you don't need to worry how you cut it. Just trim at the top and free out light falling to the leaves below.
