This past Sunday, Mikey and I went to the last day of the Sunflower Festival. It is an old family farm, that has undergone same changes in recent times. It seems that there are probably a couple of generations of Okeefe's living on the farm now. One of the younger women that we spoke to explained that her "husband was born in that old farm house," pointing to the older residence on the property. Anyway, they've started a Sunflower Festival at their farm, I believe this is the first year. They have sunflower fields that go on seemingly forever. I believe they said there are 32 varieties of Sunflowers in the fields! They had a bunch of vendor stands too, local artists, mostly and a couple of food vendors. And, then, way in the back, they have beautiful dahlias too!! I bought some pottery and a couple of cards and wish we hadn't had lunch first, as the BBQ smelled divine! Good for them! Anyway...here are a few pictures from the day...(do these work for you Sher?)

So pretty!! Sunflowers are my favorites Not all of the various varieties were blooming, but they had pictures at the end of each row, to know what they are. The red ones are gorgeous! Mikey told one of the guys that every time he's tried to grow them, they grow up and then fall over. The guy explained that you need to grow them in bunches so they help each other in the wind, etc.

It is about a mile and a half from us. So, not too much of a trip. If it wasn't for the hill we live on, and the fact there are no sidewalks, it would be a very doable walk. As our visiting friends like to point out, we live in farm country! The mile and a half takes us past horse farms, cattle ranches, alpacas, llamas and goats & sheep galore! So, yes, it is a nice trip. I love seeing the animals and wide open spaces too!
