They look ready to eat to me before the roots get too big. Thank you Sher! They are tasty! Glad to see you here.

How long do you intend to keep the sprouts growing? A week? Two weeks? The AG instructions mention changing water at least once a week, but they also suggest that you plant the trays 4 days apart, "so you will always have microgreens". That would maybe suggest changing the trays but keeping the water? I overfilled my setup again today, and was dismayed when my AG siphon stopped working. How do you break a siphon? Turns out that a few of the sprouts were in the bowl and were sucked up so that they were blocking the tube at the corner under the orange bulb. FWIW, Amazon has the same siphons as AG sells, and they're much cheaper. Happily I don't need another one. 🙂 I don't plan to have this garden very long. I have a long camping trip coming up and I'll close this garden down (and my herb garden too...mostly) before that. That was my plan from the beginning. Well, actually, my plan was to have no gardens thru the summer, but trips got postponed and I couldn't wait to have some gardens going, so I thought I would try microgreen as they grow so quickly! Glad I did! I think AG wants you to plant just one tray and then 4 days later plant (add felt and seeds) the 2nd tray, so one can spread out the harvest time. That 4 teaspoons of seeds sure makes a lot of sprouts! I wouldn't worry about the water too much. Or, you could just R&R right before you plant that 2nd tray. For siphon, I have this one - it works well and is battery operated. However, when I over-filled the microgreens garden, I used my turkey baster to pull some out. Forgot all about the siphon...

Guess that I'll harvest my microgreens and plant some poblanos, since the AG replacements for my mislabeled banana pepper have arrived. I hope that the pods produce poblanos, given the time investment. 🙂
My microgreens emit a cabbage-y odor that I'm not terribly fond of. I'll be growing more, but not for a while.

Mine too have a slight odor, but no where near what DH had when he was growing wheat grass in a more traditional sprouts tray thingy. Non-AG. This isn't noticeable in the AG without being right on top of it, or doing the R&R. Fingers and paws crossed for you on the pepper pods!!! Have you check out the Seed Vendors Thread here? I found a few favorites thru those and other threads. It is fun to pick and plant from other sources too!

Thanks for the heads up on the seed vendor list! There is SO much useful information here. My microgreens had a lot of unsprouted seeds underneath when I harvested them today. At least I think there were seeds. Some of the "seeds" were probably hulls. I ordered one of the battery-powered siphons. I'm hoping that it will get the water from at the bottom of the grow bowls out more easily. Today I drained and refilled the Farm+ (peppers, lettuce, and swiss chard), drained the Bounty Elite microgreens and started a pepper garden, and drained and refilled another Bounty (green peppers). I'm really tired of pumping!

I ended this garden today. I might have gotten a few more sprouts for topping a salad, but I was in a cleaning mood! Cleared this out and did a good reorganization on the garage freezer too. Now, I've got a pot of pintos going, soon to become NEW version of fat-free refried freezer beans. New because I'm using my "spicy beans" recipe, but I plan to mash them into "refried" beans at the end and then freeze them. I'm hoping the extra spice from jalapenos WITH the seeds will be nice. Anyway, back to work. Gotta make some new salad dressings now.

For siphon, I have this one - it works well and is battery operated. However, when I over-filled the microgreens garden, I used my turkey baster to pull some out. Forgot all about the siphon... Wow! That battery-operated siphon really takes the work and mess out of "rinse and refill". It's amazing! Now I see why you used a turkey baster to adjust the water level in the microgreens garden, rather than the siphon. The siphon isn't really intended for small water level adjustments.

I believe it was Shawn that originally posted a recommendation for it. I'm glad it is working well for you. I love my Bounty machines for the ease of just picking it up for R&R, but with the siphon and a few other tricks, R&R for Farms is simplified too. Much of my personal learning experience is documented here.

That's an excellent informational Farm garden thread. 🙂 At the end, I noticed that you decided to keep your Farm going on vacation mode to allow tomatoes to ripen. Did you know that many green AG cherry tomatoes will ripen on a kitchen countertop? I made this surprising discovery when I terminated a Bounty tomato plant that had many more unripe tomatoes than I had realized. I took the green tomato stems off (mostly), and put the tomatoes in a shallow bowl along with a couple of ripe cherry tomatoes for inspiration and motivation. (Actually, I think that ripe fruit gives off some sort of fumes.) In a few days, some of the green tomatoes started changing color. Nearly all of the green tomatoes eventually ripened.

Many of the tomatoes that I had were still too small, like large peas, along with being green. Otherwise, I might have considered just picking them and bringing them along on the camping trip. Again, thanks for that reminder though!
