I picked up a 6 pod kit of the Heirloom Salad Greens last week at Walmart. It has the usual suspects: Black Seeded Simpson, Deer Tongue, Red Sails, Mavel of the 4 Seasons, Rouge D'Hiver, Parris Island. I planted them today. No nutes yet. Pictures to come, when there's something to see.

Day 5: All pods have evidence of life in them except Red Sails and Rouge D'Hiver. They must be on Hawaii time.

Day 15: Lettuce is coming along. A few days back, I added some Red Sails seeds to the two pod (Red Sails & Rogue D'Hiver) that didn't come to life...and now they have!

Day 28: R&R was done today. The battery operated pump took a dump. Seems that setting it down on its side is a no-no. Water got into the battery area. DH hopes it will be salvageable after it dries out.

What I do now is stand the pump inside a tall wastebasket to let it completely drain--both while I'm using it and before I put it away.

What do you mean the battery pump? The AG pump? Did you try taking it apart to get the gunk (if any) out of it?

Not entirely sure what part the battery pump is but I sure hope you get it fixed!
How many seedlings are you thinning your lettuce to?

They're wonderful for doing R&Rs, but you have to keep water out of the battery compartment (2 D-cells) or they quit. www.amazon.com/Sierra-Tools-JB5684-Operated-Transfer/dp/B00318D7K8

Day 56: (Obviously, I posted the post immediately above in the wrong garden. sigh.) This garden was ended today. The deck is dismantled and I will start a new greens garden soon. In the meantime the other lettuce garden (picture above & in it's on thread) will provide us with plenty of salads. And, I've take the wire for this one & using it in the XL with the older peppers as it is long enough for that one, so I can that that pepper light wiring and use it in the Pot-O-Peno garden that stopped working. Whew!
