My understanding is that one gets an incredibly small amount of saffron per flower such that one really needs to grow a ton of them...IF harvesting saffron is the goal.

A friend grew them just recently. A garden full and he got barely more than a "pinch" as we call it in cooking terms.  |

I was tempted to grow them up in Georgia, but read that the actual amount of saffron you got was miniscule.
