Hello all,
I have an older Sprout unit (actually I think it is a 3SL) and would like to use it as a seed starting platform. I have been told that the seed starting deck for the newer Sprout models will not fit the older ones. What I would like to know is if the new Sprout seed starting deck can be modified somehow to fit my older model ? Like something simple such as cutting off a protrusion on the plastic or shaving some piece down so that it will fit. On another forum I saw someone allude to this, but there were no specifics mentioned. I think it was in reference to someone complaining that they bought the Sprout seed starting deck and it wouldn't fit their older unit. I can't even find a photo of the Sprout seed starting deck to check out the shape of it to see if this is a possibility.
Any help would be appreciated.
Mike

I can't answer your question, but I can point you to a photo of the new Sprout seed starting deck.

Hello and welcome. You also have to remember if you cut the seed starter it may impact how it works. Water may leak and/or the flow may not be there. I have not have either in a long time so I am of no help.

cynicalmass , I don't know the answer, either, because I don't have an older Sprout. However, the Sprout seed deck measurements are 11-1/8" long, 3-5/8" wide, and 2-3/4" deep. You don't need any connection to a pump. Here's a photo of mine.

Thanks all for the photos and advice. By looking at the photo of the new seed deck, it is evident that a major modification would be needed if I were to try to retrofit one to the older Sprout I have. Besides a huge cutout that would have to be done on one end of the deck to fit around the lap post, the other end of the deck is a completely different curve contour. I don't think I really want to get into all that - could be an exercise in frustration and a waste of 20 bucks. So I guess I got my answer after all ! In the immortal words of Michael Corleone's "brother" Tom Hagen, "Can't do it Sally". (Forgive the obscure Godfather reference ! )
Next plan:
Does anyone have a seed starting deck for an old 7 pod that they want to sell ? Yes I have one of those older 7 pod AGs too, and apparently they stopped making the seed starting deck for that unit awhile ago.

cynicalmass , at one time I had a seed pod deck for a 7-pod AG, but I think that I discarded it in a garage cleanout. It was all styrofoam--not hard plastic like the present ones. Not a very good value. Many seed companies sell inexpensive seed starter kits (e.g., Park Seed). Also, Amazon has a lot of seed starter kits (e.g., Burpee seed starter kit). You might be able to use your AG lights to speed up the growth in a small seed starter.
