Today I started the greens tote. I am growing Black Summer Pac Choi and Asian Rosie (Red) Greens. They are both from David's Seeds, but I got them from Amazon. Black Summer Pac ChoiAsian Rosie GreensI planted 1 pod of each today. I will continue to plant 1 pod of each every Sunday. On week 6, I will harvest the first two plants, and plant new seeds. Added 30 ml Growth Technology Ionic Grow nutrients.

You are smart to plant yours in rotation like that!

Air. You can see the pump behind and to the left of the tote in the first picture at the top of the page. The hose feeds two airstones inside. It Oxygenates the water, and it keeps the nutrients well mixed and circulating.

Thanks--I've been wondering about using airstones, so really appreciate the photos!

One more question, mike, if that's okay? Did you cut out the holes for the pods yourself?

Yes, with a 1-3/8" hole saw. Operated from the top down, in reverse, slowly. If you run the drill normally it will gouge and shred the plastic. Believe me, I know. The baskets fit well, if a hair loose. Drill a center hole for the center bit. Then snug the hole saw against the plastic. Run in reverse slowly, gradually increasing speed. I was looking for a 1-5/16" hole saw but I couldn't find any locally. To be honest, most would probably prefer loose.

Mike, it looks like you bought it from a retail manufacturer. Great job! I have a lot of empty storage tubs, and just might sacrifice one to a Kratky or an air pump setup like yours.

It pretty easy to drill the holes the way I want. The only masking tape I buy looks like a measuring tape. It makes drilling my holes easy. I had not seen that tape before, Mike. I can think of a lot of ways it would be useful. Thanks!

I love the way you are staggering those, mike. I am following your project and may attempt the same later in the year.

They look so sweet, mike. I have not seen Asian Rosie Greens before, so I am looking forward to watching them grow and develop.
