Bloody spider mites are attacking a pepper plant that im trying to nurture back to health, not wanting to go out in this cold and knowing they like dry hot places and hate certain essential oils i threw a diffuser right next to the plant and put in some thieves oil in there. Figure if i can raise the humidity AND diffuse the oils it will help kill them in a more natural way but all else fails i do have some more heavy duty stuff i really dislike using.

i'll pass on both lol, they are both a pain in the butt to get rid of! good thing about spider mites are they a lot easier to get rid of, if i was outside i would get some ladybugs *sighs* sadly one of the down falls to growing inside.

Sorry you are having to battle spider mites indoors, but thank you for sharing what you are doing. They ruined several cacti brought indoors last winter and mites attacked my outdoor peppers. I don't have Thieves on hand but what individual essential oils could I diffuse if they pop up again this winter?

A number of years ago I grew hops on my patio for three years running. Only one year was free of the hops being destroyed by spider mites.

I don't have Thieves on hand but what individual essential oils could I diffuse if they pop up again this winter? you don't have to diffuse it you can do a direct spray but the three most popular off the top of my head that i can think of is Tea Tree oil, Peppermint Oil, and Rosemary.
if you do a direct spray make sure you dilute them, now i have heard some people using as little as like 5 drops and some using as much as 20 drops (personally i think thats to much) i try to shoot right for the middle of those 2, just enough to where you can get a good smell but not too powerful. If your plants start to have a reaction to it just do a pure water spray and clean the oils off.
I admit i spray Peppermint Oil all around my house to keep spiders and ants away and out of the whole time i've live heard (coming up on 10 years) i've seen only a handful of spiders.
If you don't want to go the spray route i would suggest domesticus earth, once im done with my sprays im going to do a application or two of that too just to make sure im getting everything

So woke up and was doing my rounds inspecting the flowers and notices the pepper plant that was inflicted with the borg is starting to already to perk up, so on top of putting the diffuser in there i also put a fan and sprayed it with some neem figure the 3 things they don't like is moister, low air circulation, and light figure i can fix 2 of the 3 on top of the neem and it seems that did the trick!

Chapter 2: Revenge of the Borg!!!!
So was doing my rounds today and found bloody eggs *grumbles* so im going up to lowes and getting some diatomaceous earth, next im resorting to biological warfare! im going to order some bloody ladybugs cause im getting tired of dealing with the borg!

Ok more neem and now a daily spritz or two of just RO water and the borg seem to be dealt with! the pepper plant has a bunch of new leaves and even a couple of peppers! So before my morning watering i decided i would run around and give all the plants a nice top dressing of earthworm castings.
As for the AG peppers, they seem to be happy little worried about the purple super hots they aren't getting as tall pretty sure im going to have to prune back the red so they can get more light, Also found out my air pump isn't pumping as strong as it use to so im going to be ordering a new one (a proper double line one), i will say this that pump ran almost 24/7 for 2 years straight so it is a trooper!
Oh, and my AG unit now isn't reading proper water levels had to put 3 mason jars full of water even though it was still reading full. so i think my little water checker thing is on the fritz so i'll have to fix that next time i switch out plants.

did some room modifications, added another fan and have it in a corner blowing on the AG peppers causing air movement and small plant movement this also adds more air circulation in the room which is great cause since my humidifier decided to go on the fritz i pulled out my steamer and have been using it to keep the humidity where i need it to be (50%-55%).
Also watered in that worm castings (think i might start adding some hydroguard to the pepper plant in the grow tent cause its starting to droop every time i water it so i think its got something going on in the root system)

If your AG is a Farm, the water level meter may be okay. I thought that roots were clogging the float in my Farm with the Fairy Tale Eggplants, but they were innocent! The Farm water level indicators are quirky, in that they don't display the correct level if you plug them in after you plug in the whole thing. Link to thread about water level indicator in Farm model. It's good to hear that the Borg have been repelled!

I know this is a bit late, but if you're still fighting spider mites (or thrips or aphids etc) I highly recommend green lacewing larvae. They work so much better than ladybugs and they'll hang out in your garden eating any that hatch instead of running off right away like many ladybugs.
And when they run out of food, they'll cannibalize each other or find ways to escape outside to find food. Out of at least 100 eggs I hatched inside, I only later found maybe 5 adult lacewings in my house. They're easy to pick up by the wings to put outside, but they're so harmless and don't bug me whatsoever.
