The problem with the tatyana list is that they list plants that are considered dwarf in outside and container gardening . Regular plants reach over 6 feet, and the some of the 'dwarf' plants listed on tatyana's are well up to 5 feet. Not suitable for the AG.Stalks are treelike! Especially the ones with huge fruit from foreign climates which can be enticing to try out in the AG...
I would suggest that when looking for AG toms that actually fit, that you search tatyana's for MICRO dwarf whether it be for the AG Farm , Bounty or smaller. A good site for that is
and the best dwarf tom I have grown from there is the Window Box Red Micro Dwarf Tomato which I just finished and have another going presently in an SS6.
I am awaiting a Baby Micro Dwarf to ripen and do not recommend that since the harvest is scant.
Buying from tatyana's list is like playing roulette IMO, but there is more success with renaissance farms..

Hi! I'm especially interested in learning about diy with your own seeds and seed pods!

Sadly, I just bought tomato seeds at Home Depot(!) before seeing your reco for Window Box Red Micro Dwarf on renaissancefarms.com. Do you think it's worth trying any of these seeds or should I give them away and order WBRMDwarfs? FYI, my plants just stay in the AGs. I've no patio even -- I'm in an apartment! TO use or admit wrong choice before going further? - Burpee Baby Boomer Hybrid Tomato, determinate, bush type 'perfect for patios,' 1oz cherry tomatoes
- Burpee Roma VF Tomato, compact determinate, 2oz fruits
- Seeds of Change, Organic Heirloom San Marzano Tomato, tender annual 2oz fruit, indeterminate, 'yields large plants w heavy crop.'
I use one Bounty Elite, 9pod, and one Ultra LED, 7pod for 24" height. I've last year's plastic seed holders, coconut coir to put in them, and was going to plop 3 or so tomato seeds into each holder and see if any AG-workable tomatoes grow! Last year I did AG's own Heirloom cherry tomatoes and they were easy, bountiful and delicious!! But I'd prefer learning to use my own seeds. Thanks!

It is worth it to spend a few bucks and do things right, urban(just my opinion). Get a bag of sponges from Parkseed or Knockoffs from Amazon and a quart of AG nutrients. The little 10 dollar bottles are a rip-off, and the other hydro substitutes cause tears and frustration. The smallest ones fit the AG baskets.
I imagine Coconut will work as long as it doesn;t shed and wreck your pump..then there will be the expense of buying new pumps. It pays to get the sponges.
As for seeds, I just wrote a long comment on your other post on the same theme of custom tom seeds.

I know you won;t be disappointed. Ya know, it is really a shame the variety name is not revealed with the Heirloom Kit. I guess that is how the money is made because then everyone will go custom. a little aside: A few years back around Thanksgiving time I went to the Whole Foods Market and decided to try some Harvest Rice and it was out of this world! I got on the phone and asked the cook what his recipe was and he gave me all the ingredients. Great. BUT..any cook knows that it is the amount of the ingredient that makes the recipe a hit. So I asked him how much coriander, etc to add. He just chuckled and said that if he told me that, I'd never come back and buy his rice. He was Absolutamente CORRECTO!

I waited until the $29 bottle of nutrients went on sale a while back for around $17 a bottle (if I remember correctly) then I bought two. I consider that a very good price.
