How is the taste of the 3 tomato pods that Aerogarden sells - Mega Cherry, Red Heirloom Cherry & Mighty Mini Cherry? Any of them worth buying? TIA

How is the taste of the 3 tomato pods that Aerogarden sells - Mega Cherry, Red Heirloom Cherry & Mighty Mini Cherry? Any of them worth buying? TIA The Mega Cherry is very bland, no better than store-bought. The Mighty Mini isn't at all good, hard to say why, but lots of people don't like them. The AG Heirloom Red is delicious, especially if you supplement the AG nutrients with some CalMag. If you add some Koolbloom to those two, it will be a heavy producer. I've grown a lot of these, and have two plants going right now. If you have a Grow Anything kit, you can't go wrong with Burpee Veranda Reds. Delicious and a good producer when AG nutes are supplemented with CalMag and Koolbloom. Veranda Reds Photo

I believe it was the Red Heirloom and Golden Harvest I grew in my first Aerogarden where I pretty much over planted it with the two tomatoes as well as Jalapeno and Thai chilis. I remember the tomatoes as being fine in a salad but I never got very many.
Personally I find considering choosing the plant variety you would like with a non-Aerogarden fertilizer that would be suitable is a good choice.
You did not mention which Aerogarden model you would be using.

I was not thrilled with the AG tomatoes. I liked Red Robins and Windowbox Micros, both of which are from outside vendors.

Thanks for your response. I just purchased a Farm XL. You can grow anything in a Farm XL! The AG red and golden cherry tomatoes do fine in a Bounty--mine never need the full 24" height. The key to tasty AG red and golden tomatoes is adding CalMag to supplement the AG nutrients. The key to greater production is pruning out the lower (no light) and twisted middle (no room to grow) leaves to encourage the plants to focus on fruiting. (Koolbloom also helps with blossoms and fruit set.) The thick canopy leaves grow back very fast.

Thanks lynnee ! On my first try of this, I'm going to try a red heirloom, golden harvest & Anaheim pepper on one side of my new 24XL. I'm assuming the guidance of no more than 3 tomato/pepper plants a side - is that what you've experienced?
I didn't receive any spacers, so I have to wait for my subsequent order to arrive.

In a Farm, I usually start as many as four large veggie pods. The pepper plant will need the most space, so I'd suggest putting the tomato plants on one side of the deck, and the pepper on the other. If I were to try four of these, I'd put two peppers in back, and the two tomatoes (shorter) in front. I think that tomatoes and peppers play well together. I haven't tried it recently, but I think that some of the AG seed kits (e.g., Salsa Garden?) envision tomatoes and peppers in the same deck.
