I am trying to decide which model to buy for growing lettuce. I really like the Bounty because you can dim the light. It will be placed on my kitchen countertop under an upper cabinet that is only 18" high. Is the 40W light in the Bounty too powerful for lettuce if I can only raise the light 12" above the deck? Will the lettuce "burn"?

Hi tracey ! Yes, you can grow lettuce in a Bounty with the lights raised to a maximum 12" above the deck. You don't need to dim the lights, but you can do it using vacation mode if you want. At worst, the leaf tips will burn and dry out when the lettuce is fully grown and the tips actually touch the lights. You can still remove the tips and eat the rest of the leaves. You can also harvest your lettuce when it's still young if it's growing too tall. Growing in a wireless-enabled Bounty with undimmed lights is a head of Romaine on the left, and a truly gigantic head of leaf lettuce (Merlot, from Rare Seeds) on the right. I don't think that the lights are raised more than 12".
