CatHerder, it's on sale, so buy the Bounty Elite. It has all the AG bells and whistles, so you can tell going forward which features matter to you and which don't.

I think I'm going for another Bounty Elite! Additional light is good as far as I'm concerned. Even more so now, as I hope to grow some trays of microgreens near the Bountys.

And the deed is done. It probably hasn't hurt that I've been sharing some of the lovely green juices, microgreens, and cilantro with hubby. I also keep showing him the wads of kale and Tatsoi I'm harvesting, and he probably figures it isn't a bad thing. At any rate, he said yes. I wanted to buy some spare Harvest Slim light hoods, but they were sold out, sigh... For that matter, also sold out on Harvest Elite Slims. I wouldn't have minded another. I got a couple Bounty trellises, so that I'll be decently supplied for all 4 Bounty models now. Let there be LIGHT! And plants.

scarfguy, is it the "LED full spectrum red blue" component that you purchased to make the Photone app work correctly for your AGs?

I went all the way and purchased the Photone Pro Lifetime Unlock for $79.99.
BUT, the only setting I use for grow lights is the "LED full spectrum" setting.
I think you could just buy the "LED Full Spectrum lifetime unlock" for $6.49

The limited version is all that I need, since I only want the light meter for my AG plants. I just wanted reassurance that I was making the right choice. $80 for the full app sounds like a good deal, but I'll hold on to my $73!

I think the LED full spectrum (not the red-blue) is all you need.
That reads PAR in umol/m2/s which can be converted to DLI or the meter will read it directly if the lights are on for a known number of hours. The the web site has a dictionary of DLI for different plants.
I would not buy the CCT upgrade as that isn't control-able between AG models. I don't see that as a very good representation of spectrum which requires a more expensive tool.

I've read all your opinions on the disadvantages of touch screens, which makes me hesitant to purchase a Bounty or Bounty Elite (don't care about the app). But I think having the 50W light might be useful for cucumbers and bell peppers.... Ugh. Here we go again.....
Don't forget you have another option that I pioneered some time ago when I struggled with the same issues. I now purchase only bounty basics so I don't get the touch screens. The light hood is removeable and you can take it off and add external lighting above the bounty. You just need to figure out how to suspend an external light. I use a garment rack and two AG 45 Watt light panels side by side. This gives me a wide light source at a strong 90 Watts! It also allows greater growing space. With the rack I'm using I have a max of over 40 inches from the deck to the light panel.
I saw your set up. Pretty cool. My issue (other than being cheap parsimonious) is that I'd be discarding a brand new, perfectly good light hood. Plus, I've only been at this addiction hobby for almost two months, so figuring out how long to have the light on, etc. isn't something I'm quite yet ready to tackle. Also, in the specs for the grow light, it doesn't mention a timer. Can they be plugged into an external timer; I use the Kasa Smart Plugs (every single light/lamp in my house is on one), so I was thinking one of those would work?

I had one in the cart (with about three other gardens ), but as I went to check out, I saw that it has a white grow deck. I swear I've seen pics on here of Bounty Elites with a dark deck. Maybe they changed it? I've read the pros/cons of a white grow deck and I'm not sure I want one? Opinions? I know.I'm tedious. I'm sorry.

[me] "I think I need another AG for cucumbers.... they're on sale...." [hubby] "okay" [me] "....or two, maybe for more lettuce too...." [hubby] "that's fine" So here's what you do -- [you] "I think I need another AG for cucumbers.... they're on sale...." [hubby] "okay" [you] "....or two, maybe for more lettuce too...." [hubby] "that's fine" [you] "And then I'm going to get some sheep. Just a couple so we can make our own wool . . . " And if he say's "That's nice, dear. You do that." then you know he's not paying a lick of attention to what you are saying, which gives you carte blanche from there on out. [hubby] "UPS is out front with two huge boxes from some place called 'Aero-something' . . . " [you] "Oh, good. Those are for growing peppers and tomatoes. They go upstairs." [hubby] "Upstairs? [you] "For making our own pico de gallo. You remember. We talked about it last week, and you said it sounded good." [hubby] "Oh, yeah, right." This gives you great power. Use it responsibly. None of this -- [hubby] "Why is there a pony in the TV room? . . . ' [you] "To keep the sheep company." [hubby] "Sheep?" [you] "The sheep I got so we can spin our own yarn." [hubby] "Yarn?" [you] "So we can make our own sweaters. We talked about it." [hubby] "Oh. OK." The poor dear doesn't really know, so be kind and do not take advantage. After almost 34 years, he knows all my tricks (we married young). And what you mention above is how I rescued our last cat about five years ago. "Uh.... why is there a cat in the trap in the bathroom?" "Remember, I said I was TNR'ing the black cat in the back yard. It's almost Halloween. Not safe for him." "Oh, yeah, ok. But we're not keeping him, right?" "Uh, yeah, sure, no, of course not" The only one I have left (and I can say it here because he won't see it) is when he's playing his online Warlords of Ka'a (or whatever it's called) and is concentrating because he's winning, I can slip in a quiet "I'm making a purchase" from another room. He'll ignore me, so I'll say it again. "I'm making a purchase!" "Allright!!"

I like the platinum stainless best; it doesn't show those "stainless fingerprints" like the regular stainless. Yes, I agree! All my Bounty Elites are platinum stainless. I think I like the look of the plain stainless steel better, but I prefer not to see the fingerprints and/or deal with removing them at intervals! I could wish my Harvest Elite Slims were platinum too, but the prices on those at $50 each were too darn good to be picky about finish. So far so good, I'm just being extra careful about wiping them down after handling during rinse and refills. I ordered my sale Harvest Elite for microgreens in platinum, but didn't realize until I opened it up two weeks ago that it was actually stainless. I guess the box should have clued me in, but it didn't. I decided to keep it, because if I returned, I'd probably not get the sale price. And I was hot to get going with the microgreens. Plus, it matched up with the Slim Elites in the kitchen. I got a sale Harvest 360 and was gifted one also for Christmas, both of those are the platinum stainless.

If you look on their website aerogarden.com/gardens/bounty-family/bounty-elite.html (and select the 'grow anything' pod option) you'll see that the decks are now very light. I like the dark deck on my Bounty Basic, and was hoping it would be the same on the Elite, but they apparently changed it recently.

Then it's wait and see. I won't worry over it until garden arrives. It could be light, it could be dark, depending on their stock. At any rate, I'll live, one way or the other.
I've not had any notable problem with the Harvest Elite Slim units and they've all got light decks. Just a bare trace of algae here and there. Usually not enough to actually SEE it, but when I wipe the edges of the grow decks with a vinegar-dampened paper towel during a rinse and refill, I see faint traces. I do add hydrogen peroxide with each R&R.

My problems seem to be limited to the light deck on the Bounty. I haven't noticed issues with the lighter decks on my Harvest Elite machines. They are different materials...don't know if that has anything to do with it.
