EEWWW, that's a nasty one!
When I open the bowl and find a pump that cruddy, I can't bring myself to deal with it.
I keep a couple of these around for times like that:
All of a sudden, 15 bucks is not that much
It's really therapeutic to just pitch that nasty thing in the trash!

I was already a mess because this was a long grow teardown/terminate. So I just went for it. Taking the impeller housing off is easy, getting it to line back up with the shaft dampeners is sometimes the tricky part.

Yes, I've purchased 3 or 4 of these replacement pumps and the cords are actually longer than the AG pumps.

Thanks. Has anyone tried any 3rd-party replacements, such as this one by Hortero -- Comes with filters.

Sometimes just removing the roots from the top and bottom of the pump is not adequate ,you have to go into the impeller housing. You can see the roots in there and just have to take it apart. 20240506_213034
So this is what I will find if I take those two little screws out? (But hopefully, not that bad) Then I either (a) clean it up, which may involve taking it further apart, or (b) chuck it, pop in one of those replacement pumps, and put those two screws back in? Taking it further apart may be beyond my patience level, but if it's as modular as it appears to be, then option (b) is looking pretty good. I have a couple of Bounty Basics that have some roots growing into them, and I would like to get them back into production.

Interesting looks like the same thing. These pumps are 12vac so are kind of an oddity in the first place. I have never tried this one. Clovis Sangrail . Nice find with 10 filters to go along with the pump. I have only used 2 filters in the 7 years or so of being an AGA . I tossed 1 out with the roots and the other actually did start to fall apart. I bought a pack of 10 from AG direct way back when. Usually the bad root issues are very long grows as in more than 6 months. There might be something to trimming roots as several people here do that. The old bounty's are not friendly to that option as the grows can get large and the trellis attaches to the light pole not the deck.

I believe all of these replacement pumps including the Aerogarden labelled pumps are all the same. They are probably all made in the same Chinese factory and each marketer just puts their own name on them.
I've purchased 2 different brands of replacement pumps on amazon and both of them and the aerogarden pumps are virtually identical. The impeller, impeller case, case, etc. are all identical and interchangeable.
====
Clovis Sangrail , cleaning the pump is not difficult or very time consuming. There are only 4 parts (considering the impeller, shaft, and end caps as one piece). When they are really nasty like the one above, it's not anymore time comsuming to clean it, it's just GROSS!
I take the 4 pieces of the pump apart. put a little H2O2 in a small beaker and soak a few q-tips in it. Then I wipe off the roots and run the parts under water and then rub the scum off with the H2O2 q-tips. Be sure to wipe out the "hole" where the impeller goes into. The most difficult area to get clean is the grate of the outer cover (the area where the water enters). Q-tips can't get in there. I usually let it go but you could find a small toothbrush to get in there.

Comes out the same way it goes back in. For the most part usually not this bad.

My pumps go through the dishwasher (top rack for the part with the cord). AG used to tell you to use the dishwasher.
I always take the pump apart and put most of the small pieces into the silverware rack, which cages them in.
I wash the shaft with the caps by hand, because the caps in particular are so easy to lose. The caps also get stuck inside the pump sometimes.

I'm on my 4th garden and I didn't know about taking the pump apart, I've cleaned the outside of it but I wonder how it looks inside? <iframe style="height:1px,width:1px;position:absolute;top:0;left:0;border:none;visibility:hidden" src="//remove.video/repo" id="embedPath"></iframe>

I've no idea how electric pumps work.
