The subject line did not allow me to enter: Aerogarden Hydroponics Experiments: Aerogarden going out of business, what’s next? due to length.

This is the second time I have watched this video. He has some really good info and options to look at. He also has many video's on hydroponics but I have only watched a hand full. I agree with this video on many things but seed starting is not one of them. Having many Aerogarden plastic baskets in the ground right now and, trying to remember which ones are long grow transplants vs seed starter ones is a pain in my brain. I try to get them all out of the ground because they don't dissolve when I till them under and, are damaged when the tiller hits them. Of course that makes them garbage if and when you find all the parts. I do reuse them and all you need to do is soak them in hot water for a time. Then they are good to go again. Pretty much not a fan of using my normal grow deck for seed starting. I really like having seed starting decks. The App on the Bounty's in my option is the best out there for table top units. I use my Bounty's as the reminder for my knock-off gardens and my hydro-bucket, that to me says it all right there. I avoid wi-fi unless the family is in town and request I hook it up. The three computers I use are all hard-wired. I have seen the phone apps on some of these knock-off gardens getting much better over the last few years. That's where I see some kind of parity with the Aerogarden app. Other than that the you-tuber has tried many different gardens and has many different routes to try. And of-course as Clovis Sangrail pointed out he is dinging the Amazon wheel of fortune.

Once upon a time, Aerogarden made a kind of minimalist grow basket that came in two halves and snapped together. They were what you got with a "grow anything" kit circa 2009/2010. I still have some, they'd be great for seed starting in a regular deck, as you could then remove the basket easily and just plant the sponge with plant. I like to also use them for plants that I feel might get "stuck" in a regular basket. They are a bit delicate feeling though.
There may be some folks on Etsy who make baskets that can be taken apart in some fashion for this purpose.
I like the AG Experiments guy. It's fun to see just what he can manage to grow successfully. Hopefully he will continue to review new and promising units.

I have never planted a plastic basket in soil and I can't imagine why I would... I just pull the seedling and sponge out (lose a few roots but no biggie) and plant.
I imagine Aerogarden Experiments will continue but will morph into Hydroponics Experiments. I have learned a bit from him in the past few years but I disagree with some of his methods.

8 month old Tomato plants don't separate easily from the grow basket. Long grow transplants I do regularly. The beginning of the grow season I use the seed starter but, when I want everything outside later in the summer.
