I remember on an old forum that someone had posted instructions for creating LEDs that would fit in the CFL sockets on the Classics. Do any of our veteran members know how to do this?

there are adapters so that high spectrum CFL bulbs can be substituted for the AG CFL's, but I don't recall LED adapting being done. correction....
I looked on you tube and there are a few..one gal replaced one in hers, but the light is so dim, the herbs gravitated over to the CFL side. The other 2 I saw used pliers and boards being weilded about and wires were disconnected and soldered back again yada yada yada.....YIKES! The CFL substitute bulbs I used to use were from Lowes, but they don;t sell them any more. The equvalent can be found on AMazon 1600 Lumen Full Spectrum 23W equal to 100 in a regular bulb/but the need adaptors(version 2) which can be found on ebay(be careful of the prices..some are for wholesale bulk)
Hope that helps in a small way.

Wow, if I remember correctly, the price of that adapter really went up!
The lowest price I’ve gotten my AG bulbs for during a sale was $8 and change. The difference sure adds up.

This has been extremely frustrating for me since I picked up a very old unit (2006, seven pod) basically at a garage sale. The lights still work since it was hardly used, but I don't have the money to just shell out hundreds of dollars for replacements every year.
I contacted the merchant and they said they set the price sky high to prevent orders from coming in, since they had none in stock and they were not planning on ever getting them again.
Basically all of the merchants on eBay and Amazon just turned the tap off for these converters a few months ago and there's no indication that they'll come back. I wanted to replace them with LEDs as well since they last longer and are much more reliable.
I doubt anyone knows, but what can I do exactly?

Although I'd love to find a converter that is safe and reasonably-priced, it looks like I will need to stay with CFLs, too. I'd like to assure you that you won't need to "shell out hundreds of dollars for replacements every year." The CFLs stay bright for a long time, especially if you're just using them to grow greens. If you want to grow other produce, you can keep your Classic unit next to any other LED AG that you might own and it will pick up more photons. The Classic 7 is a very good unit. I've recently paid ~$100 each to buy some on ebay so I have nice display of all white Classic 7s.

May I ask, are you looking for a tall machine (one that raises 24") or a short one (One that only raises 12")? I ask because periodically if we see really good deals on machines I will post them. Sometime it is thru AG and others it is Amazon. While they are far and few in tween we DO see them. Also now with the Holidays approaching we should be seeing more.
Keep an eye on the Sales Board as that is where we post them.

I had great results with the adaptors and the high spectrum cfl bulbs mentioned in my above post. I think I changed them not even twice a year! They are way more powerful than the regular strength AG cfl bulbs and are made to last. It was not expensive at all. I realize the desire is for a LED conversion, but ........if I did not know about electricity(as I don;t) I would be afraid of wrecking a good working CFL hood foolin' around with it. Might as well go buy a Bounty!

with those cfl bulbs and the adapter i grew kits and custom successfully.
i meant to ask...do you have the 2 or 3 bulb machine. i think it only works with the 2 bulb hood because of the indentation for the bulb.
