Machine: Harvest Vendor: Ferry Morse 6 pods AG nutes AG k/o sponges
Started Feb. 4
My Harvest arrived too late for the official start of the GAL, so I played catch-up with the seeds I had on hand.
I just put a pinch of seeds in each pod because they were too small to count.
Now all the pods have at least one little plant.
I'm very excited about my first flower growing project!

They are all up now. Are they supposed to be this light green, or do I need to add nutes?
I moved the pods to the painted Harvest so I can look at them!

I think I am going to go buy some Krylon.
I would not worry about the color. It is early and every flower has different leaves.

Thanks, Shawn. I will quit worrying about the leaf color.
On the Krylon Fusion, I prefer the satin finish. It's not matte, but it's not glossy either. Your choice!
Edited: I actually did use black matte Krylon. On the plastic, it looks satin. I use satin for other projects, and thought that was what I was grabbing this time.

Domes are off the petunias, and the pod with multiple flowers thinned.
I also added 1 ml of nutrients.

Here in NW Ga, I am blessed with soft well water -- only 37 ppm. Our well is 300 feet deep through solid white quartz and green granite. So I don't get mineral buildups.
Back home in N. Florida, every time I boiled a pan of water, it left a layer of white in the pot!
So I can't take credit for the lack of mineral buildup on my decks!

My petunias are not doing well. The one in the left rear is definitely sick.
I used the Ferry Morse bedding petunia seeds I had on hand when the GAL started. I don't think that was a good choice for the Aerogarden.
I will see how this goes. But if it does not go well, I will terminate it.
Then I will just start another garden project with the cascading petunia pods I got with the new Harvest.
So goes gardening. Always new lessons in patience and persistence to learn!

I would try adding 1 or 1.5 ml more of the nutrients right into the reservoir and see what happens. They look hungry.

What a difference adding the extra nutrients made!
There is still a little yellowing. Not sure if it needs more nutes or if the light was too close. I raised it a little.

Got a question. The petunias on the right are growing much taller than the others. I don't know why. Maybe the light is uneven. Anyway, the plants are going to need to be trimmed back at some point because the seeds I planted are supposed to reach 12-15 inches high -- too tall for the Harvest. Should I go ahead and top the plants on the right now?

If it were my project, I wouldnt cut them back until they flower . You could keep an eye on the roots and clip those back if they get a bit too much in the small reservoir, though. It is just a matter of taste..you may not like the fuller, bushier project.

As always, thank you, Corinne!
I really didn't want to cut them back now.
I would not have thought of checking the roots, either.

This is nuts! Petunias are taking over my living room! Do the AG petunia types get this sprawly? Or is it because they are bedding petunias?

They are really taking off! The Larger Cascading petunias do that as well, but eventually spill out over the sides.
