This little AG Heirloom produced a bumper crop of tomatoes. After I harvested the tomatoes, the plant was dying, as is normal for a determinate tomato.
I cut it down to bare stems, leaving only a few tiny leaves and severely trimmed the roots, transplanted it into a Harvest, and expected it to die.
While it still doesn't look terribly healthy, it is covered in new leaves, and is even putting on some tiny buds.
It will be interesting to see how it fares.

It seems to be thriving! I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

The plant is taller, stronger and bushier than it was in its first life.
Now it is putting on little green tomatoes.

Some tomatoes are starting to ripen.
Not bad for its second lifetime.

I put a regular white LED spotlight on the right side of the plant. The additional light is making a big difference ripening the tomatoes.

Wow! I'll say! I'm guessing if this was the first round of tomatoes for this plant, you would be very pleased...and now you can be doubly pleased! Good job!

I am eating a lot of sweet tomatoes from this plant.
I will terminate it after this harvest because the stem is getting too thick.

HA, I had plants like that with thick bases. I had to saw off on top and then pull the root end out the bottom. At least you are enjoying many yummy home grown tomatoes.

I would not kill it if it is still producing.. stem will be fine.. My 7' plant outside in the bucket is in an AG cage.. Stem is over and 1.5" in diameter I would guess.

This is very interesting and supports a theory I have speculated on: That although a determinant tomato is expected to finish after a single harvest, may in fact be regenerated by growing out a sucker/slip located down low on the plant. This inspires me to experiment in furtherance of my theory.

ponicspilot , I often keep harvests going for months by pruning non-bearing or spent branches. This was the first time I had cut the plant back to almost nothing.
Your experiment should work great for you.
